About my art

Frances Healey Painting at Bolinas Lagoon
Frances Healey Painting at Bolinas Lagoon

I have been painting in oils “en plein air” since 1983.  I am inspired by the surrounding beauty of the natural environment of the Bay Area, especially Marin County, where I have lived with my husband Michael since 1973. I paint outdoors primarily because there I feel most “in tune” with the natural landscape, and can capture the overall mood or feeling of the scene.

My method of working involves carrying my paints, materials, and canvas to the site, where I set up my easel and work quickly at first to capture the feeling of the scene or subject matter.
